November 27, 2017 | By

Philadelphia, PA – November 27, 2017 The Curbsiders has named Joel Topf, MD as Chief of Nephrology at Kashlak Memorial Hospital. Topf is a fan favorite, and has served as the Nephrology expert for The Curbsiders Internal Medicine podcast since early 2017.

In his role as Chief of Nephrology, Dr. Topf will help The Curbsiders deconstruct topics in Nephrology making them easily accessible to Internists and primary care practitioners.

Dr. Joel Topf, is a clinical nephrologist, pioneer in the use of social media for medical education, and Assistant Clinical Professor at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, best known for his blog, Precious Bodily Fluids, and hilarious/informative Twitter feed @kidney_boy. He also teaches residents, med students, and fellows at St. John Providence Hospital and Medical Center, where he was awarded Teacher of the Year. Most recently he received the prestigious Robert Narins Award from the American Society of Nephrology at Kidney Week 2017 for his innovative work in medical education.

“Kashlak Memorial Hospital is incredibly lucky to have Joel on the team,” said co-founder Matthew Watto, MD. “When I first invited Joel to be on the show, it was sort of a shot in the dark. To our pleasant surprise, he responded ‘cool, let’s do it,’ and has since been an avid supporter of The Curbsiders.  As expected, the shows featuring Joel receive our highest number of downloads and we are very excited to see what kind of knowledge food the Salt Whisperer will deliver in 2018.
